Notes

This circuit is designed and simulated in Proteus 7.10. In this circuit you will learn how a diode bridge is used to charge and desulfate the lead acid battery. This circuit is very simple, economical, effective for desulfation (repair battery capacity) and easy to understand. To understand this circuit, see previous circuits "Single Diode Voltage Clipper" and "Full Wave Rectifier" in Analog Circuit category. The working of this circuit is given below. 1. This circuit consists of just two components, a transformer and a diode bridge. 2. Main ac voltage of 220Vrms and 50Hz is applied at the input. 3. The ac volt meter is connected at input to measure input voltage and ac current meter is connected at output points to measure the charging current. 4. The sinusoidal wave has two cycles, positive and negative. After full wave rectification both cycles become positive and frequency is double, i.e., 100Hz. 5. The transformer output voltage must be greater than the battery voltage + diode bridge voltage. If your battery is of 12V, then input voltage should be 15V and current 1/10th or 2/10th of rated battery capacity. 6. Lead acid batteries have a problem that sulfuric acid presend inside battery react with the plates overtime to form layers of white powder like substance on plates. 7. This layer reduce battery life and charge storing capacity, which reduce battery backup time. 8. It has been observed that if high current pulses applied to lead acid battery, these high ampere pulses breakes the layer and cyrstals deposit on plates, which increases battery charge storing capacity and increase battery backup time. 9. This type of charger is called battery desulfator charger. 10. There are two electrical method for desulfation of battery, one is PWM charger and other is simple bridge rectification. 11. In this circuit simple bridge rectification is used to charge and repair battery. 12. This charger is effective for both new and old lead acid batteries. It repair old battery, and prevent new battery from being damage. Application: 1. This circuit can be used to charge the battery from 220Vac. 2. This circuit can be used to repair backup time of old battery. For old battery this circuit take at least 1 week to increase battery backup time. Note: New circuits are added on daily, weekly and monthly basis. So come back daily to get new amazing circuits. In next circuit more advance desulfator circuit will be shown.
