Notes
This circuit is designed and simulated in Proteus, but you can design and simulate in any other software. This circuit is a limited replacement of function generator. 1. Three waveforms are generated using this IC ICL8038, which include Square, Sine and Triangular wave. 2. Very few components needed t.o build this function generator circuit, only 4 resistors (R5 and R6 are optional), 1 capacitor and 1 IC. 3. This circuit is not a detailed circuit, infact it is a test circuit of waveforms generation for fix frequency. 4. Supply voltage can be set between +10VDC to +30VDC for single supply and +-5VDC to +-15VDC for dual supply. 5. By varying the supply voltage, the amplitude of the waveform can be changed. 6. The output is just a signal, you cannot take power from it. If power is required, used power amplifier circuit. 7. This circuit is tuned at 10kHz frequency. 8. The frequency can be set by using following formula f = 1/t1+t2 = 1/(R2C1/0.66)(1+(R3/(2*R2-R3))) if R2 = R3 = R and C1 = C, then equation becomes simple f = 0.33/(R*C) 9. Here R = 10k ohm and C = 3300pF, after puting values in above equation, we get f = 10kHz 10. The amplitude of sine and triangular wave is less than square wave. 11. Sine wave amplitude is 0.22*Vsupply 12. Triangular wave amplitude is 0.33*Vsupply Applications of ICL8038: 1. This IC can be used for frequency modulation. 2. This circuit can be modified for frequency sweep. 3. This circuit can be used as sine wave generator or free running oscillator. More application circuits of ICL8038 will be added soon.
