This circuit is designed and simulated in Proteus 7.10. Its a very basic circuit for protection of reverse voltage using diode. Working of this circuit is given below. 1. Diode is a very basic, simple and useful device in electronics. 2. Diode is a one P-N Junction and two terminal device. 3. Diode allows current in uni direction. 4. Current flows from positive terminal (Anode) to negative terminal (cathode) of diode. 5. Current only flows from diode when it is forward biased. 6. Diode is forward biased when voltage at anode is greater (0.5V to 0.7V) than cathode. 7. Above mentioned properties of diodes are used in various applications. 8. In this circuit diode is used in series with the battery, to protect voltage polarity, as shown in animation. 9. In animation left circuit shows correct polarity, therefore when switch is closed, LED starts glowing. 10. In animation right circuit shows wrong (reverse) polarity, therefore when switch is closed, LED remains OFF. Application: 1. This circuit is used for reverse voltage protection. Note: 1. The selection of diode is according to the current and voltage requirement of circuit.
