Notes
This circuit is designed and simulated in Proteus 7.10. In this circuit you will learn a concept of voltage doubler. The working of circuit is given below. 1. In this circuit we applied input ac voltage of 6V (max. amplitude). 2. The swictch SW1 is placed in series of input voltage for turn OFF and ON of circuit. 3. Then a half wave rectifier is placed using D1 in series and capacitor C1 this is stage 1. 4. At second stage another half bridge using combination of diode D2 and capacitor C2 is placed. 5. Similary multiple stages can be added to achieve the desired output voltages. 6. When the switch SW1 is closed (circuit is turned ON), at first stage the capacitor C1 is charged with respect to ground through diode D1. 7. While C2 is charged with respect to opposite end of ground (which is switch SW1 end) through diode D2. 8. See the combined output voltage at common point of D2 and C2 with respect to ground. 9. The working of circuit can be more understand by this animation. Application: This circuit is used to boost the voltages by two times (as its name voltage doubler). Notes: 1. This circuit does not work for DC input voltage. 2. This circuit is only suitable for low power rating. Download these files to perform more experiments in simulation.
